81. THE SOUP KITCHEN

Besides all the things I keep busy with (let me tell you it’s probably worse than the schedule of the US Prez), I have recently decided that it’s time for me to give back to the community.

And thus every fortnight on Monday evenings, a group of us, and a dear TV host friend of mine, roll up our sleeves to pack food for the old and homeless at the Serangoon Road area via a Soup Kitchen project that runs out of the Post Museum on Rowell Road. (See details and map below on how to get there)

Address
107+109 Rowell Road
Transport
Nearby Stations: Farrer Park

My first night involved me and 3 others each lugging a bag filled with 20 packets of food that we distributed to some of the folk running the Thieves Market at Jalan Besar.

It felt good connecting with the smiles and gratitude of those that received the food from us and more so, I actually felt useful to someone.

It’s been a long time since I have been given that opportunity in a world where independence, individualism and self-absorption is so much more revered than a sense of community.

The Soup Kitchen starts at 6ish and us troopers start heading out around 7ish with our packets.
